There are many reasons why customers are choosing Harris Print.

First, the MAN-Uniset press is unique in Australia, designed to handle a wide range of work from commercial to newspaper production. The press has an infra-red dryer which is more economical and environmentally friendly than the traditional heat-set drying process.

While Harris Print has had customers who were sceptical of the operation, when they took the time to see what has been created in Burnie, they changed their minds. They've seen for themselves our long-term commitment to offering the best.

In less than three years, Harris Print has gained regular contracts in the highly competitive Sydney market place and produces the weekly edition of the City of Sydney Times, monthly publications for Newtown, Glebe, Leichhardt, Anandale and Balmain, a monthly for Pittwater Life and The Mature Australian. Other publications include Canberra's Capital Senior, The Riverland Senior, Tasmanian Farmer, Tasmanian Parent, Tasmanian Senior and Tasmanian Fishing and Boating News.

Contracts into Victoria include Frankston Flier, Australian Jewish News, Property Review Weekly, Holiday Magazine, Wedding Magazine and Good Weekend.

One of Harris Print's most challenging projects was to produce an information insert on the Constitutional Convention - 6.5 million copies distributed to every newspaper in Australia from Thursday Island to Hobart and Perth to Sydney - all produced in 10 days on 153 tonnes of Tasmanian paper.

While many in the printing industry have been downsizing their operations, it had always been a plan to increase staffing levels at the centre.

Our commitment is always to maintain a full quota of staff and apprentices. We are increasing our shifts, employing more personnel and acquiring additional state-of-the-art technology which will benefit not only our interstate customers, but our local ones as well.

The integration of the three Harris Print sites - Devonport, Burnie and Cooee - into one umbrella organisation has been a smooth process. With the three sites working as one, the Harris Print management team acts as a nucleus handling administration, sales, quality assurance, purchasing, production control and engineering.

Co-operation between sites has meant customers have been able to reap the benefits as they are offered a complete publishing package. Harris Print customers are encouraged to be involved in the planning and designing of their products. The company has an accurate estimating software package which can quote for sheet-fed, label and web printing.

Customers are informed of what they are getting and the exact costs.

The future for Harris Print is bright. We are continually receiving printing inquiries as well as employing an active marketing strategy specifically to target interstate customers.
